Is there a way to hang plates without using the wire type plate hangers or the hanging rack?
I'm almost positive I've seen plates on walls without looking like they are attached to anything really, just sort of floating. I've even seen larger platters hanging and I love the look so I was wondering if there is more than 1 way to hang a plate?

There is a product called Disc Plate Hanger. My mother in law has used this on her plates. I've seen them at Hobby Lobby. Here is the manufacturer's website:

I agree the disc plate hangers work pretty well. My wife has used them several times.

Just my two cents; not even in my area of wonder; but...
IF these happen to be heirloom pieces; (Great Grandmas collection) or artsy; decorative pieces having them "Float" is valid, but a bit absract in my opinion.
Certainly there are "shelves" that can be hung; that display plates of value or importance; most often with just a NOTCH on the BASE plate to allow the "PLATE" to rest and lean.
This could probably be accomplished with individuals as well allowing that the "bracing" wouldn't be the "focus"
I really want to assume these are ICON pieces you want to display, not just a set of Correlle or Mikasa. If it was a
Plate I felt attached to; though I don't strictly understand emotional attachmenets to THINGS; I'd probably want it as SECURE as possible.

Yes there is, you can glue them on the wall using contact adhesive, I found the brand called SERIOUS STAFF to be the best, it almost sticks anything to anything. You can buy it from most D.I.Y stores like B&Q.
