ok. the space shuttle launched, and landed on the space station,?

and doo dah, wacka wacka. are we learning anything by doing this over and over, or is it a waste of time and money?

Update:

neilsmyhero--if YOU were observant, you would tell by the wording of my question that i think it is a waste of time and money. children are literally starving to death in the US, let alone Africa and other countries. there are MANY things to better spend our time and efforts and billions of dollars on. if you don't realize that, you have no right to be snippy with me, ok?

Update 2:

rocketmaniac--thank you very much for disagreeing without being disagreeable

I have to totally disagree. It's money well spent. The shuttle that just landed did a ton of work on the International Space Station. That station is doing experiments and research everyday that will help us here on earth. They are finding ways to make new medicines and new metals. The are studying the earth and making discoveries in areas like globalwarming. The "spin-offs" that come from the space program make our life better. Things like velcro and improved fire fighting suits to name a few.

Edit: Just do a simple search for "benefits of space exploration" and you'll be amazed what is good about the space program.

They are doing something different each time they go. Frequently they are installing new components for the ISS, the construction of which is now the shuttle's main mission. The only reason for the station's existence is to conduct research in a microgravity environment. The fact that you are not aware of this indicates to me that you're not paying attention, and if you're not paying attention, you're unqualified to comment on whether it is a waste of time and money, or not. By the way, the shuttle does not "land on" the station, it docks with it.

They are installing a super camera to find out what kind of panties brittney spears is wearing. That way the government can break the news before the tabloids do, thus making more money to fund the war on terror.

We are learning very little from each of these missions. For the cost, the value is very, very poor. The money should be spent elsewhere, like paying off little things like the national debt.

I wonder the same thing. I think they said they are to take off again soon. It would be nice to let us know what the knowledge gained is.
