On a Mac the whole file dependency structure is contained in the application bundle, so you should get a clean install just fine. If you want to keep both versions you can rename the old one to FF2.0 or whatever. If not, you can just overwrite the .app file.

I don't think Firefox 3 has been release yet, but you should be fine to install over the old version, you shouldn't lose you settings.

a later version can typically be installed ;over; also called a ;durrrrrty install; usually it utalizes shared components of the shell app, so no worries, because you will just be installing the same stuff over again. i would just see if it auto-detects it and installs over it.
