Well, I wouldn't agree that at any point in time, a male 'chauvinist' was a thing looked upon as positive.

But we must also not assume that male chauvinism means hitting women or being considerably crass or crude in their presence.

Rather what you may be referring to is that the days of the belief that men are a source of strength and safety are long gone.

This is an unfortunate product of liberalism and women's rights.

Women's rights is no longer about equality, but more about radical feminism. The more that it saturates society, the less respect there is for the 'gentleman,' and old/traditional gentlemanly ways.

Men in general are respected less, and likewise so are fathers. And with no respect given, then how are they to know how to mold themselves?

Before the use was adopted for feminism a chauvinist was anybody who had a fanatical pride in their own country. A male chauvinist is clearly a man who fanatically believes in the superiority of men.

People have been using his phrase for a while now. How old are you exactly?

Your avatar is a generic silhouette...?!

Chauvinistic attitude means that its a man that looks down on women, different than a gentleman. A gentleman is someone who protects, cares for, etc, a woman; he treats her well, but without looking down on her. Chauvinist males are pigs. Or, as my mom and I call them: pig-dogs.

Gentlemen are good. Chauvinists are bad. =D

What changed was the big to-do about women's lib. Don't get me wrong--I'm all for equal rights for everyone, regardless of age, racial or gender issues. But in recognizing the equality of women, society went too far in that direction, and tried to make women not only equal to men, but superior to them. I am very much aware that there are many things that men to do better, and many things that women do better. But giving recognition to women should not have made men feel inferior. Every person, male or female, should be judged on his or her merits, and not on age, race, religion or gender! I am a woman, and I approve this message!

Well, I had this conversation with my girlfriend once while we were at a pub, she was banging on about equality and how women deserve the same oportunities as men...bla..bla..so I said "o,k heres your oportunity to buy a round for once and you can unblock the faulty drain when we get home too if you like"

    She hasn't mentioned it since.

Fact is, you don't know whether its "acceptable" to hold a door open for a female acquaintance or offer to carry something heavy incase its "sexist", unless its your girlfriend or mother ofcourse.

A lot of things have changed during the last 20 years or so. No one seems to have the least bit of common sense or caring.

Some people have always regarded you as a gentleman. Some have always regarded you as a pig. We're currently in a world where the pigs have the upper hand. Now will you please move further down the trough.

The word chavinist came from a french soldier in Napoleon's army.
