How would I go about putting a lein on a vehicle and a home that I have done work on?
My mom passed away and my brother is trying to get everything. My husband and I have done all the work on the house and the vehicles. Is there anything that we can do? We live in Montana if this helps. Thank you all ahead of time.

You need a probate attorney.
But, for your question....
You can't at all on the cars.
On the house, you can IF you are a licensed contractor and IF you have a contract to do work for XX amount for your mother. Otherwise you are a fmaily member helping out, just like millions of others.
Without a will probate court will divide all of your mothers property evenly between her children. Who did what makes no differance.

You may want to get with a lawyer: But "Mechanics Liens" are usually applied when someone owes you money. Was there a contract for your mother to pay you back?
Again, I'm not a lawyer and this is not legal advice. You basically need a lawyer to go over your possible options in this situation.

Best bet get an attorney. We (family) ran in to a same situation and generally the sibilings have to buy the other sibilings out, buy paying for either the house or car for the fair market value. He just wont get it. If you sell it to a person who is not related then you would probably have to split the monies. Not an attorney though. Get one. Best Wishes.
