The E38 was similar to the E34 which in turn had similar suspension unit components to the E28.
Ignore the advice about warped discs if they were warped you'd get wheel vibration at all speeds, discs don't warp at a certain speed they're either warped or they're not, the vibration is worse at certain speeds but it will be there all the time.
The common fault within the front suspension components with the bigger BM range is worn bushes, it's because there is a lot of weight up front and abuse of the power steering, oddly they decided to use a fairly standard bush.
If I'm right, and it sounds similar to the E28 problem, there is no woblle until about 50 mph then a vibration and by about 57 it's gone. If this is what's happening you can either buy new BMW bushes (but in the cars future it will re-occur) or go to a motor factors and order an upgraded (nylon or something like that) bush and have them fitted.
I wasted lots of time and money having discs checked, wheels balanced and tyres changed, once the bushes were done problem solved. My records show that it cost 114 pounds including VAT to have the bushes supplied & fitted.

I think Mr Clegg's probably right, but I have another possibility, which I hope is not what's wrong with your Beemer, cos it's a major expense.
If I'm right in thinking that the E38 has a ZF steering box, like the E28 i once had, then it's possible this is worn. I believe there is some adjustment that can be done, but when mine went, it was a new box, and they ain't cheap! Pray it's just bushes, or part of the linkage!

I would suggest a 4 wheel alignment, tyre rotation and balance and see if that sorts it out. Also BMW's like quite high tyre pressure so check what your tyre pressure is. All the best and enjoy your BMW

Accelerate more,Put your head between your legs and kiss your *** goodbye!!
Other than that sound advise, check your wheel bearings are ok, It could even be the TRACK ROD ENDS (wish bones) or the rubber gaiter at the end ot it may be worn! easy to repair but the mechanic will take a wee bit of time doing the job though.

Reggie cound be right. Do you notice it more when braking?
Also, check wheel bearings, and for damage to the rims.
See if you can find somewhere that will do a wheel balance on the car, that way all of the rotating components will be balaced as well as the wheels.

Sounds like warped front disks to me
MrClegg a typical symptom of warped disks is a wobble at 50 - 60 mph

are the tyres these super thin low profile type if you hit so much as a pebble in the road it can knock the wheel out of balance.once the inside track of these are damaged its a bin job.

get a wheel allignment and check the breaks. Take it to a mechanic would be the best and safest bet its too dangerous driving with problems like that
