Taking an animal overseas?

I am planning to move from the US to Egypt. Can anyone tell me what steps I would have to take to be allowed to take my cat with me?

Direct flight or are you going through a European country? Because in the European Union there are strict regulations (and then they differ from country to country). Cats, dogs and ferrets now need their own passport for instance.

I doubt Egypt has any regulation on the matter but you should check on their embassy website and also your vet should know. They are used to filling papers necessary for travelling abroad with your pet.

Go the the Airline's website. The rules for pets is constantly changing. You need a Vet to give all the shots and papers from the Vet on the pet's health. Some countries quarantine the animals for up to 6 months. Know before you go. The country's website may give you some info too. It could be very costly to bring a pet into certain countries. The Airline personnel can give you the correct info for each country you need. Good Luck. I think it is easier just to leave the cat here. But, that's me.
