My 4 1/2 pound toy poodle just went into labor, how long should it take to deliver the pups?

Ok...average time is usually up to 4 hrs. First litter? Maybe longer. See a sack? Help her out if she cant get it out by gently pulling on the puppy as she pushes.

Make sure it is quiet!!!! Lower lights and let her calm down!! This is very important. Absolutely no chaos while she is in labor!

In labor and nothing happening? Take to the vet immediately!

I have always had poodles. Be patient it could take awhile. Just make her comfortable and make sure the area she is in is comforting to her. Talk softly to her and gently pet her to let her know you are there with her. I am not a breeder but have had a few litters over the years. Depending on how many pups she is having, which I expect is not too many considering her size she may only have one. I had a tiny toy and she only had one pup. Just keep an eye out and make sure she is not having trouble pushing the pup or pups out. If one should get stuck you can gentle try and help her along but in no way force the pups out. If you feel you cannot do this take her to a Vet ASAP. Hope this helps and good luck and congrats!!!!

How long has she been in labor? If it has been over 4 hours call your vet. Once you see the pup start to come out it will not take long for it to be out completly. Once that happens the mother will tear open the sac and chew off the cord and yes she will eat this! lol Then she will start to clean the puppy. Give her time a space, but keep a close eye on her. with in a few mins or so she should start to "push" out another puppy. if she has anymore. Some small dogs may only have 1 or 2 dogs. If she looks distressed, (heaving breathing and panting, or very tired) call your vet. GOOD LUCK!! I love it, having puppies is SO much fun!!!

We had a toy poodle start into labor one Christmas morning.She weighed just under four pounds. The male was also very small. We waited to open presents until she was finished.We were up early (8am) and it was close to 11(am) when she finished. She had 4 pups and though we sat with her the whole time, she didn't need our help.We did take the pups and dry them off good.She cleaned them up herself.She would only let my sisters and myself come into the room.We are all adults.Late that afternoon, she let the others. It was the best Christmas present that we had gotten in many years.Congratulations. I envy you. Would give anything to have one.

What was she bred with? If it was anything larger than her she could die. These pups could be too big. Just make sure when they get out you get the placenta away from their face so they can breathe if she doesn't...some dogs (in their 1st litter) especially if they are young...do not want anything to do with the pups...therefore you have another problem on your hands.

Depends on how many puppies she has in there. But this is probably something you should have read up on before she whelped.

If she ain't delivered them by now what difference does it matter? Take her out and give her a good burial.

Only time will tell When she is ready teh pups will be ready
