Do dogs lose their sense of smell if they eat cheese?

My friend told me they did and I wasn't sure if he was joking or not...so, do they?

I'm pretty sure they don't because first, I've been feeding my dog cheese for a long time and he sniffs at everythig normally. Second, all the websites that tell you how to make homemade dog food or treats use cheese. Third, I cannot find a website that lists cheese as one of the things that dogs should not eat.

No, absolutely not, the main ingredient in cheese is milk and milk cannot cause a dog to lose it's sense of smell no matter what.

No. But a few hrs after your dog eats cheese, you may wish you had lost your sense of smell. ; )

If every dog that ate cheese lost its sense of smell, there would be a virtual epidemic of anosmic dogs, mine included. Their sniffers are just fine, thank you.

Your friend is either woefully misinformed, or putting you on big time.

My dogs have eaten cheese their whole lives and still have their sense of smell! Your friend was definitely pulling your leg!

If anything, their sense of smell FOR CHEESE improves! Once my 3 had a taste of Swiss, I could never sneak it past them again -- they can smell it a mile away (and line up to beg for more!)
