Yes the goarmy.com website will match you for a job.

The best option is if you have at least something in mind and they can guide you better. Best bet is to think of something that will benefit you on the civilian side.

Also if you don't like your ASVAB score you can take it again in 6 months and they have a study guide for it.

This is definately "ask 10 people- get 10 different answers" or the Ford vs Chevy scenario.

Over the last 20 years, I have asked myself this question time and time again. Now that I am a father, I am also soul searching to provide the best, educated and qualified answer to my children.

"If I knew then what I know now"- I would join the Army AGAIN. Except this time I would have reached higher sooner. What I mean by that is, it would have been ALLOT easier to be in the Special Operations community without a wife, children, mortgage, etc. The added benefit of youth on my side would have been a welcome relief as well.

I have found that if you are contemplating a career in the military then go Army. A job that requires a clearance (Secret, Top Secret) is a value added plus. Airborne, Ranger, Special Forces, etc. are all much easier when you are single and 20 then married with children and 35.

If you are looking for a 4 years and out route, then do the AirForce/Navy thing. High Skilled civilian equivalent; so you can have a trade when you get out.

  • I have seen that the Air Force doesn't take real good care of their pilots. Plus you don't have a GT score of sixty or higher, you don't have a chance of getting into the Air Force. The Army is the best because you actually get to pick from over 212 jobs they have to offer. I chose to be a mechanic because I have the highest ability of getting a really good job when I get out. Like I was just offered a job with Caterpillar making 70,000 the first year. Pluse they will pay for all my training and schooling. My opinion is go with the branch that takes the best care of their men and women. It is also my opinion that the Army takes the the best care of their soldiers. Top of the line health care, dental, I don't the food anymore so I can't comment on that. The best training that you could ever get and free pt five days a week. I love it.

The service that you would go with if you want the biggest sense of pride and accomplishment is the Marines. I have been a Marine for almost 8 years now. Whether they will admit it or not every branch knows the Marines are the best. I have had people from every other branch that have told me this and that they didn't want to put in all the effort to become a Marine. Granted, Its hard as hell, but once you are finally there, there is no better feeling. Plus the uniform gets you lots of chicks. If your going to the Military for the money or to get something for college, don't join the Marines. If you want to become a killing machine, become a Marine.

Well it depends on your interests and what you would like to do. All branches have basically the same jobs with some differences depending on branch. I was in the Navy years ago and had the chance to visit a friend in the Air Force, they do have a better quality of life in some respects. He was at the same Air Base his whole enlistment where as I was on the same ship but we traveled far more than any other branch of service cept for the Marines maybe. I would say if travel is one of your goals(we visited several different countries while deployed)the Navy would be my choice.

The first step is finding out which type of job that you would like to perform most in the military. Then go visit the recruiters and see which offers you the best deals such as bonuses, qualify of life, money for schooling, deployments, oppertunities to see the world, pride, honor, or whatever is most importent to you. Narrow your choice down to two branches and learn everything you can about them. Try to talk to people who are in that field of work and ask them to tell you what work is like on a daily basis in that career field. Take everything with a grain of salt. Recruiters will more then likely hype things up and you dont want to ask some disgruntled troop who hates his job and stir you away from something you might like doing.

    Best of luck to you.

i am in the army for just over 4 years now and i am in iraq on my second deployment... i joined the army at the same time as my friend from high school joined the air force.... we ended up getting stationed at post right next to each other and we even lived together for a while.... in my experiances the air force has a much better quality of life and many other benefits that the army recruiters wont tell you about. plus when you deploy you arent gone nearly as long. im not saying the army is a bad organization but definatly do your homework about each service and which one suits your needs the best.... and doing your homework doesnt mean asking a recruiter.... they are kinda biased in their answers if you know what i mean

I served with the Marines back in 68 and 69...I have no beef with any branch, this is where you have to talk with different ones..but I have a grandson in the Army..and he likes it..all branches has changed since I have been in..talk with local recruiters to see what best fits you..

Consider the Air Force...they are supposed to have the best food and the best looking women (not that life is all about food and women, of course).
