I am desperate to find a one minute, dramatic monologue. I'm 14 and trying out for West Side Story. I thought it would be easy to find, but either it's really hard or I'm not looking for it the right way. PLEASE help, it would really help.

Google "Dramatic monologues" and you'll get some ideas. Look at them closely and pick one about the same themes as West Side Story is about: fitting in, dealing with prejudice and learning about life on the street. Look for something about gangs and violence. There are angry monologues and ones that deal with more personal issues like losing a friend to a violent enemy or trying to understand how we can be so alike as well as so different. If you don't like that material, go to your library and find books of monologues for young actors. There are monologues about several issues in those books. You might even want to buy one to mark up and work with as you audition for other roles. Hope this helps. Break a leg! Rob R
