Different schools sometimes have different names for similar courses of study. Look at the courses involved, not just the title of the program.

If you want to be a computer programmer, you need to see what TYPE. Your question is very broad and can lead to Java scripting to hardware engineering. The difference between computer science and software engineering is that computer science are the "hands-on, testing of the products" like motherboards, ram, etc. For software engineering, it consists of using computer languages like java, html, c++, autocad, etc. You really need to know WHAT you want to do. Focus on a few things from each field. You may like both and you might major in one and minor in another or both. Doesnt hurt to learn as technology changes everyday.

Computer science is great to know because of the focus on security. So make sure you find a good school and get as much info on either one of these degrees
