Can fireworks I purchase for a christmas party that I invite clients and friends to be deducted from my VAT?

I'm Vat registered and clients as well as friends and family will be invited... i know i can claim vat back on my own hotel bill if I'm travling for business but I'm nto sure about this.

    I would doubt you can claim anything back.

    Part of the expenditure is to entertain clients. Business entertainment is not an allowable deduction. Notice 700/65 has HMRC's views on this. The legislation is found in VAT (Input Tax) Order 1992 art 5.

    The rest of the expenditure appears to be private as it is for the benefit of family and friends. As such it is not a business expense and again is disallowed.

    What does your accountant say? He is the guy that does your books and VAT accounts.
