Second option is better. Brightness is a little low but with a good screen and suitably dark room, it'll be very good. Remember a good screen can make a huge difference.

A very difficult question.
The main problem is how the manufacturers rate their projectors. I personally feel that a washed out screen is going to destroy your viewing compared with a decent TV. To prevent that you need lumens and contrast.
If the specs above are the same manufacturer, I would opt for option 1, simply because of 70% more light. I suspect they are not and the the lumens ratings between manufacturers seem to be pretty worthless. I have seen a sony projector with 1300 side by side with a panasonic with 1000, and the panasonic was way brighter and more watchable.
Having recently bought a projector and just guessing at those specs, I would lean towards option 2, praying that the lumens spec is "understated". Do look into a high gain screen as well. That is what I added to mine and it worked great.

For basic standard DVD viewing, I'd go with the 2000:1 res: 800X600 since the 4000:1 contrast ratio of the other projector is probably relying on iris or lamp manipulations which in the long run results in low lumens.
Nevertheless, check out first what the lumen rating really mean, especially if they are normal or hi-output ratings. It's best to rate projectors on their lower end setting, such as in the econo mode. And besides, the lamp life is extended greatly in the low/econ mode.
Good luck!

Yes. Thats right if lighting environment can be controlled to a complete darkness choose.

But if your selecting based on specs, its the best choice for home theater .. remember the higher the "res" which means resolution the higher quality the picture can be.
Hope this helps u out.

That's a tough question. Making this decision with only the specs is a bad idea. Manufacturer makes such a big difference because all specs are not alike.
Based on specs alone, I would go with the higher lumens since you want to watch this with ambient light. If it was going to be a dark room, then I would go with the XGA, 1000 lumen, 4000:1 contrast.
