User might prefer to use yahoo! answers because sometimes it's more fun to ask people than to figure it out on your own. Also, there are questions that are better answered by humans than by search engines.
Chances are someone in the Answers community has the exact answer to your question because they've experienced the same thing before!
Search engines can be annoying, inaccurate , out of date and time consuming to use. Yahoo! answers is friendly, up to date and offers a wide range of opinions and experience.
So why not ask a hard or interesting question, pop on the kettle and have a cuppa and wait for the answers to flood in from all around the world.

Google DOESN'T own a monopoly on the Internet.
edit
With so many options on the internet, everything doesn't have to be "googled". Anyways 80-90% of the time google diverts the information to Yahoo's site.

YA doesn't have some business trying to sell something every other link. YA lets people give more concrete answers instead of sifting through miscellaneous google garbage.
