How much does a cab cost from Manhattan to JFK during the morning rush hour?

Would it be cheaper to call a car service? Do you know of any good car services?

Update:

Better yet... does anyone know of long term parking near JFK that is affordable and safe?

First of all, the flat rate does NOT apply to JFK. It only applies to Manhattan from JFK.

Okay, that being said, I usually take a car service. I've always used Dial-7 and have never had a problem. It's $48 to JFK (plus tip and toll) and they can usually have a car to you shortly after calling.

Yellow cabs have a set fare from Manhattan to the airports, but it may be cheaper to call a cab company, they also have set fares to the airports, just look in the yellow pages and call up a few of them.
