Signs in the Sky?

Jesus said in the end of days, there would be signs in the heavens signaling his return. Do you think the Comet Holmes is one of them? After all, it basically exploded and is increasing in brightness and now it's coma has grown lager than the Sun itself. Scientist have now declared it the "largest single object in the solar system." What do you think?

Sweetie, there are comets flying around our solar system ALL the time. Comets are balls of rock and ice, and when they get close enough to the sun (usually inside of Mars' orbit) they heat up and that ice begins to melt, forming a "tail".

Comet Holmes did not do this, but instead expanded into a perfectly round, bright disk. However, this is not the first time this has happened. Comet Holmes did THE SAME THING the last time it passed through our inner solar system, back in November 1892. For information, check out: http://www.skyandtelescope.com/observing/home/1077...

Comet Holmes is a beautiful sight to behold. If you haven't gone out and looked at it yet, please do. It's beautiful. Take a pair of 7x50 binoculars along, you'll be amazed.

As for the religious portion of your question, Jesus also said that no one knows the day nor the hour. Yet for centuries people have predicted the end of the earth, and thus far all of them have been wrong. Given those odds, do you really think it's likely that it's happening now? Also, do you think it's likely that Comet Holmes is a sign this time around, when it wasn't a sign last time it passed by Earth? (remember, it did the exact same thing 116 years ago)

Rather than be concerned about whether or not Comet Holmes is some sort of "sign", please focus instead on living a great life.

    I hope this helps.

If you've watched Holmes over the last three weeks, you may have noticed that it never got spectacularly bright, either as a "star" or as a comet. It never had a big long bright tail that said "LOOK AT ME!!". It is now fading away, because, as it expands and becomes the "largest single object in the solar system", it is also rapidly expanding to become "nothing" with a 2 mile wide lump in the middle.

If it is a sign, then Jesus is coming back in a 1969 vw microbus and I'd look for him somewhere out in the oort cloud right now.

I believe Jesus also said "nobody but the Father knows the time". After 50 years of looking at the sky, the only "sign" that I'd trust would be Jupiter being ripped apart and reformed into the words "This is THE sign you've been waiting for. Jesus."

If you're concerned about Jesus coming back, or merely eagerly anticipating it, try living your life like he asked you to and don't worry about ambiguous "signs" in the heavens that have been coming and going throughout human history.

Scientists have predicted that when the wold declines there will be signs in the sky. Like the signs of the dying sun. Like the radiations of the sun going dark and the sky becoming dark. Now scientists say that the most largest object in the sky is not our sun but the comet Holmes. It is now expanding. There could be more than this in the sky that we don't know. Maybe there will be so much of things like this in the future which would drag us more to our end.

    Sure it is a sign.

It's a sign that a comet has "exploded".

There was another comet about 10 years ago that was brighter.

And there are always signs if you look hard enough.

Remember when Jupiter was hit by a comet?

    Levi-Cevita (sp?)

Look hard for signs and you will find them ;-)

But it did exactly the same thing in 1892. Was that the end of days? To paraphrase Bill Shatner, "It's only a comet!"
