Barry Bonds? What about Rafael Palmeiro, Mark McGwire, and Sammy Sosa.?

I don't think the federal government should just single out Bonds.....in a federal hearing Rafael Palmerio stated that he did not use steroids EVER.....well later he failed a drug test.....Mark McGwire the former single-season home-run king got on the stand and stated he did not want to discuss the past (hint hint)......and Sammy Sosa well suddenly Mr. Sosa didn't know how to speak English ("him needed a translater"). I'm not defending Barry Bonds, but Bonds and Palmerio was sure shot Hall of Famers before the steroids talk.....I can't say the same about the rest.....All in all Major League Baseball turned its head for the longest.....The MLB Steroid Policy didn't go into effect until the 2005 season.....It is called the "Steroids Era" for a reason.....because until 2005 MLB was not testing for steroids so there is no telling who was using steroids at the time.

Did they have any proof on the others? Palmeiro got caught after he testified. I think with Bonds he is being singled out but they do have some proof to convict him. It is funny how they are not going after the others as hard as Bonds. Maybe they will after they convict Bonds.

Barry Bonds lied to a grand jury but the others didn't except for that Palmeiro was tested positive after the Senate hearings & McGwire with his statement almost proved he did & Sosa couldn't all of sudden speak English. All athletes who are on steroids should be punished no matter how popular or unpopular a player is. I am not a fan of Bonds, but I think he was singled out because he wasn't very popular with most fans or the media. I used to be a great fan of Palmeiro but after he was tested positive, I lost all my respect for him.

Bonds got singled out for a number of reasons. First, and this is what will land him in jail --- he committed perjury 19 times according to the Grand Jury.

Secondly. people have been after Bonds for several years now, and it was only a matter of time.

Third, it's a shame that we need the federal government involved in any of this --- the federal government has no business running or even being involved in pro sports. Oh and just so every one knows, George Mitchell, the politician who is heading up the investigative committee is a co-owner of the Boston Red Sox --- think about the conflict of interest on that one.

Fourth, McGwire and Palmeiro deserve whatever they get, especially Palmeiro for lying on national TV at the first investigations in '04.

Fifth, supposedly there are 11, count them, 11 players to be named by the Grand Jury that will be found guilty or steroid abuse --- Bonds is only one of them.

Finally, if Bonds does go to jail, he is not going because he took steroids, he is going because he perjured himself to the Grand Jury 19 times.

I agree with you. However, steroids were prohibited much earlier than 2005, but the penalty was much less severe. All of those players who are proven to have taken steroids should be punished. As far as Bonds goes, he has only ALLEGEDLY committed perjury. They still have to PROVE that he knowingly did, and that is historically a very difficult thing to do. I predict he will be aquitted.

The others did not lie to a grand jury - after having been given immunity. Baroid is not being prosecuted for using steroids - he is in trouble because he lied.

Mac just refused to say anything - Baroid could have done that. Look at Martha Stewart and Scooter Libby - they did not get prosecuted for insider trading or revealing secrets - they were convicted of lying.

Learn what you are talking about please. Baroid is a liar, cheater and jerk - and soon a criminal!

It is illegal to lie to Federal authorities so if you do you better not get caught. While we can assume all these players used steroids- Bonds is the one the feds have a strong enough case against to prosecute.

All records of any one proven to have used steroids should be stricken from the history books, no matter who you are, or whether you are a pitcher or a hitter.

Palmeiro lied to a grand jury, therefore he should also be prosecuted for perjury. McGwire didn't lie, he just didn't answer the questions. Sosa no habla.

I hate when people defend him by point to others. He is the all time home run king which is why they are going after him. It is about Bonds becuase they think he lied. Period.

I feel bad for Barry Bonds. Your right. There has been a lot of other people who did steroids and they aren't facing 30 years in prison.
