Just by shear luck we are not Number 1. The crime in certain areas of Orange county is just horrible. When I grew up here it was the Parramore area that we avoided . Now it is Metro west and Pine hills areas also. And as the ecomony moves closer to a recession the crime will only get worse.

I left Orlando in '03 partly because of the rising crime rate. There is no leadreship in law enforcement, only donut eaters.

After 61+ years of living in Orlando, We sold our house, bought a motorhome and tour the country, if crimes too high, we move.

At the moment Orlando is #11 for crime, I'm willing to bet by 2010 it'll be #1.

Consider your sources. Read the fine print that is often NOT included in press releases.

Most dangerous cities, Fattest people and all those ranking polls are garbage as many cities never participate in the surveys and/or many criteria are too narrow in sampling data or misinterpreted due to poorly written survey questions.

You also have to consider the statistics are based on population. They don't take into account how many people here are from out of town, so the actual crime rate is lower when you consider how many people are in Orlando and don't get counted among the statistics (unless they are victims or perpetrators of crime...)

I think it is different for visitors. We would always stick to well know areas and not wander off. It is the same in any city, stick to the tourist areas and things are a little different.
