Where does Sony stand in the world of computers?

In my opinion, they are pretty average. I would have given them a try however, they are 50% more expensive than Acer and HP.

I think that Sony is one of the best consumer market laptops. There stuff has a fairly good build, and is better than hp and Dell. I do believe Apple is better, but if I had to choose a non Apple computer (I have a MacBook.), it would more than likely be a Sony VIO.

i think sony makes laptops as a novelty. sony does not bother with inexpensive laptops offered by hp.com. sony is more sophisticated aiming to a market with more spending power. and it is obvious in their products. their laptops sport carbon fiber casings, and the windowsxp/ vista program is well integrated into their reinstallation dvd or stored in the harddrive. where as reintallations of toshiba, hp, dell and the rest, still have separate windows/ os and their bundled softwares. what i love most about sony laptops is that whenever i reformat and reinstall everything from scratch, it just takes me a very short time and i don't re-activate windows online. aside from this, there are tweaking programs that sony make specially for their laptops, in other laptops they all depend on what microsoft provide them with.

Very good. A little pricey.
