indeed there is...you wouldn't believe how many genres of music there are out there..it's insane..but this is from wikipedia..
Gothic rock (sometimes called goth rock or simply goth) is a genre of rock music that originated during the late 1970s. Originally bands from the genre were referred to as positive-punk[1] by the music press and had strong ties to the English punk rock and emerging post-punk styles.

Omg!!! That is horrible. I understand that you need the $3.18 for the bus, but this poor baby just lost his/her fingers. The parents should do something amazing to help this child. The finger fairy was a great idea, but it better me good. I think I would walk to where ever I had to go tomorrow. And that little neighbor kid would get my money. You could also make a homemade card. I'm sure there is somewhere in your town where someone is giving away a puppy or kitten. That would be a great comfort for the kid as well. And that doesn't cost a thing. Just a little time. Maybe make a card with the animal on it and then have it waiting for the child when they got home from school tomorrow with a bow and note that said it was from the finger fairy. That pet could in turn be the ear that the child needs to have listen and the warmth of a companion in his/her heart while he/she heals body and soul. I'm sure some of the other kids and even some very nasty adults will try and make this child feel like less of a human for these missing digits and that pet will help heal and ease some of this pain that child will endure. Good luck. And God bless this child!

A stereotype as a kind of music...? You're putting the cart before the horse! There are many different types of music, and each type of music is classified by a specific "genre" (pronounced jon-ra). The term was originally applied to paintings which depicted scenes of everyday life, but somewhere along the line it was reappropriated by music theoreticians. "Rock" and "hip-hop" are very broad musical genres, encompassing many different artists and styles, while "rockabilly" and "trip-hop" are rather specific subsets. Occasionally, a style of music will fit not in just one, but two or more genres. Sometimes a single artist will play different songs which are distinctly different styles. There is nothing particularly wrong with describing music by these classifications, it is not a stereotype in the same way that people are described by labels.
Now, for your question - yes, there is such a thing as "gothic music". It is just about as broad a brush as "rock" in general. There may be elements of metal, punk, folk, classical, country, electronica... you name it... So, it is not just the sound of the music itself, but also the intent of the musician, and the mood or image that they hope to portray, perhaps through their lyrical content, or else their live performance. Or, maybe it is just the music that goths happen to listen to. Some people only refer to band names and artists, and never talk about genres. That's okay, too.
Finally, to confuse you further, very little of all of this "gothic music" is actually called by the g-word. It is such an all-encompassing descriptor that most people refer to very specific sub-genres - industrial, electronica, techno, noise, powernoise, deathmetal, symphonic metal, symphonic electronica, trip-hop, synthpop, darkwave, coldwave, new-wave, no-wave, madchester, post-punk, emo, screamo, angura-kei, apocalyptic folk, dark ambient, mediaeval...

Goth was very much the 80's/90's. It was more glam than anything emo...and I still like it.

no! unless the lyrics were like "black black black black black" or something. god i hate people who have no clue what they're talking about. like saying ur gothic when ur not even wearing black, or you are but its not like u wear it ALLL the time. and when they call u emo and your wrists are perfectly fine and ur generally a happy person.

I equate Gothic with medieval, like Gregorian Chant or Latin hymns......
What were they referring to when they said you like "gothic music": metal, death metal, punk? I wouldn't label any of these as "gothic".
