Answers questions that are "Violation Reason:Not a Question or Answer" should be deleted Y/N?

I just had an answer deleted as a Violation because it was not specifically an answer - just a commentary. Fair doos somebody was upset - the reason was I thought I knew the answer - but then I read the details and realised I didn't know - and so I said so.

"Violation Reason:Not a Question or Answer" Ooops on me.

I'm not beefed about this per se - BUT do you, the membership, agree that the law of this forum is that all non-questions must be reported as Violations - e.g. those statements that people make with a ? at the end.

And all answers which do not (In somebody's opionion) meet the definition of an answer must also be reported?

Yes or No will do and maybe a reason. Any other answer will not of course be answering the question - e.g "dunno" is not an answer to a Y/N question it is a response.

To me, the "not a question" violation is when you give a reply like "IDK", "Whatever", "Thanks for the 2 points", (as if...." or any of a dozen other replies that do not address the question.

To violate for mere commentary does not fit the criteria. I especially dislike getting the violation when I give an answer that the asker did NOT want to here, but is legitimate in every other way.

Perhaps a second chance should be given, rather than a removal of the question or answer, to clarify and expand so it does fit properly

Sure - if you posted an answer, then realized you were wrong, you should not lose your points and have a violation on your record for it

This forum has so many bugs to work out

I got the same notice when I answered a question with a question...so not only was it an answer, but it was a question...so how does that fit into the category of not being an answer or a question?

I am not really sure what you are asking so I guess I risk getting a violation but here are my thoughts:

I think the Yahoo Answers is a little unfair. I think they should tell people what the infraction is, and they don't. I got deleted for something and I had no idea why. Then you see these people saying the most vile stuff and who knows why they get away with it.

    NO.

look at all the questions that aren't questions.

i.e. "I'm just bored." or "I just got a new puppy."

    just a few examples.

I have had answered deleted and didn't even get a reason.

example: Q:"Why can batman suddenly speak Kriptonian?"

    deleted answer:"Why don't you?"

    Violation of what?

No, I do not agree that all non-specific answers must be reported.

What are we attorneys here? "Please, Mr. Murray, just answer the question with a yes or no."
