Snowboard waxing?

This will be my 2nd season of riding... :-) I think i need to wax my board (i was told if you can't pick up any wax with your nails you have to re-wax)... I don't want to do it myself just yet...

My question is how much $ should it cost to wax my board if I take it to a shop?

Will they also tune the edges (is it necessary)?

if you go to a board shop it shouldn't cost more than 10- 15 bucks... the shop near me charges eight because I built a good rapport with them. yes they should tune the edges and it is essential for those random patches of ice so you can bite right into them. Fresh wax is amazing.

I wax my own board and it is not very hard, but

Hot wax (which lasts about 30 days of snowboarding)-$10-20

Regular wax ( lasts about 3-4 days) -$5-15

If you want your edges sharpened it could cost a bit more (dont pay more than $15 more) but if it is only your second season with your board, you dont really need it.

Yeah...if you haven't done so already you definitely should get your board waxed. A good rule of thumb is to get the base waxed after about every 5 days of riding. There are also different waxes that you can put on your board for different kinds of snow. You usually only need to get your edges tuned maybe 1-2 times a season depending on how much you ride. The best way to check is to just look at your edges closely and run your finger down them. If they are badly burred and chipped or gouged then it's time to get 'em into the shop to get some Love. Your board will thank you and reward you with a much improved ride.
