But from your explanation of your mom calling it a "Sideways Bob", I would say that you are probably wanting a type of Asymmetrical cut. That is a cut that is longer on one side, or longer in the front. The best thing you could do is print the pic of the style you are wanting to achieve, and take it to your stylist and see if they can do it for you. It is pretty much a bob with uneven layers in the front or on the side. Its the cutest haircut I have ever seen. I had that hairdo when I was 11 and many people were not wearing it back then but now it is really popular because of Rihanna.

It is a cute style for someone who has a shapely body. I had this cut about 3 years ago, actually it was way shorter in the back and I really hated it. Just did not look good on a bigger woman.
