f(a-b) for f(x) means plug (a-b) in for all the x's in the function:

    2(a-b)^2 - 3(a-b) - 5

    = 2(a^2 -2ab + b^2) - 3a - 3b - 5

    = 2a^2 - 3a - 2ab - 3b + b^2 - 5

That's it! Though, you probably don't even need to expand it.

    Find f(a-b) for f(x)=2x^2-3x-5?

    Substitute (a -b) wherever you find x

    f(a -b) = 2 (a -b)^2 -3(a - b) -5

    expand it
