In MTB Suspension forks, is the length of the exposed stanchion equal the travel of the Fork?

e.g. Does a 100mm travel fork have an exposed stanchion length of 100mm also or longer?

no. the exposed length of the stanchion does not directly compare with the travel of the fork...lighter weight forks will typically have smaller lowers that overlap the stanchions less. a fully compressed suspension for still shows some stanchion, no? within a given make/model, the longer travel version (or setting) will most often show more of the stanchions, but even this is not an absolute rule.

so, a 100mm travel fork will show more than 100mm upper tubes (stanchions)...

Not necessarily. In some brands the stanchion length might be the maximum travel of the fork, but usually by design most forks won't max out the stanchion length.

no it doesn't. depends on the brand of suspension forks. the new version of rock shock judy (j2, j4, dart) for instance has a relatively long stanchion, about 4-5 inches or so but the effective travel is just around 3 inches.
