What to do at recess for Kindergartners?

The kindergarten play yard is not as engaging in my opinion as there is a play structure to climb on and that is it. The kids (3 classes almost 60 kids) run around like banshees and then get in trouble for play fighting or get hurt running into each other. I am looking for ideas that are cheap/ free to provide some organized activities or additional activiites besides just running around for kids to make it safer and more fun for those students who are just overwhlemed by the chaos. And how to get other teachers to buy in as they see this as a break for them and don't want to organize anything?

Update:

I am generally referring to outside recess time on the play ground. The kindergarten play ground is a smaller enclosed area so there is no room for kickball or activities that require a lot of space. I am trying to fit in foursquare but I am worried the kids are two young to play that game.

drawing with chalk is always good, our school bought tricycles for the kindergartners (and painted a track for the bikes)...jump rope was popular, and we planted a little garden that the kids liked to walk around in....and on sunny days, we laid a blanket on the ground and the quiet kids just sat and played there....

have them make masks out of paper plates and markers, tie the masks with string, then have them pretend to be their favorite superhero and/or villain. it takes time, its fun, and it makes them use their imaginations.
