You have a very interesting question, and the answer is quite unthinkable.
Back when computers were extremely slow, people would type and were annoyed by they're computer crashing due to quick typing. The solution was to put keys in awkward positions so that the user would type slowly. Notice how to type one of the most common words "and" you must reach all around the keyboard.
So, in reality, a better keyboard could be made and it would let people type much faster, but the idea was never adopted because it we, as a universal solution, have adopted this slow keyboard.
Hope this helps,
Craig

The typewriter has been around for over 100 years, and the keyboard was originally designed to suit secretaries and business personel.
IBM (International Business Machines) developed the office computer in mainstream business, so creating a keyboard which mimicked the typewriter made the adjustment from the electronic typewriter to the technological keyboard/computer easier.
Last, but not least, they used the same format so that it did not slow office procedures down, cut costs and so anyone universally could use it.
Office costs were cut by not having to retrain people to type in a different format, office procedures did not slow due to the fact that everyone already understood that format and every country already used the same basic format for typewriters, so it could be used universally.
I really hope this helps

i guess computer keyboard had been designed accordingly to alphabets which are use more such as 'A', 'S' etc. is at the far left and it will be near and easy for our left hand to use it. If it is place in the middle of the keyboard it will be more difficult for our hand to reach it. If you alert, we will use the far left or right of the keyboard most compare to the center button ;)
