Loose part in the steering wheel of my 1996 Nissan pickup?

My Nissan pickup has developed an annoying rattle in the steering wheel hub. It's most noticeable when turning or when you start to go up or down a steep grade, not so much on bumps or rough roads. I've removed the cover plates on the side of the steering wheel hub and it looks like there is a small metal counterweight flopping around inside. I hesitate to take it apart because of the airbag, or take it to a dealer/mechanic because of the repair cost/availability of parts. Comments? Suggestions?

You just unbolt from the sides the two air bag bolts and tear the weight all the way off and throw it away. If you disconnect the batttery 10 minutes before the bag can be safely handled. You may be able to remove the vibration damper with out unplugging the bag. yellow and orange plugs New Generation bags have two plugs, with black retainer that needs to be pulled out approx 1/8" then the plug releases from the bag pull straight up with fingers. Place air bag metal side down under the truck.
