Yes, one of my favorite folk metal bands is from Ireland- Cruachan. Also Arcane Sun (doom/death metal), Geasa (Celtic black metal), and of course as previously mentioned- Primordial.

Primordial are a very good Irish metal band. They combine some folky elements with metal and hard rock. They're very good, check out their Myspace page. They recently released an excellent album "To the Nameless Dead".

At a stretch, some of Thin Lizzy's songs could be classed as Metal.

I am not really sure if you would class them as Metal but there is Therapy?
There is of course Primordial.

Well ... er ... Metalica did do a cover of "Whiskey in the Jar"
Perhaps the Pogues? (I know, I know ... not metal either)
