what is another way to shield a habitat in outer space from cosmic rays, which can also work to protect Earth?

one way to shield a habitat in outer space from cosmic rays is with an absorbing blanket of some kind, which would function much like the atmosphere that protects the Earth.

I need to put down another way; however, this is the only thing I cant think of right now. What would be another way?

Thick shielding of dense metal. Gold would work fairly well for this, but it's expensive, which is why lead is used for shielding. So -- give your habitat a nice thick shield of lead.
