How do I keep my existing cell number when switching cell phone providers?

My contract is ending with AT&T and I was wondering, how do I switch to Verizon and still keep my existing cell number? I would like to do it online if possible or do I have to go to a Verizon store to get it done? Thanks

As many of the others have mentioned, it is possible and it's called "Porting" your number. It would probably be a less difficult process if you were to go to a store to have this done. Make sure that you have you're AT&T account number (should be on one of your bills) ready in addition to the number you wish to port. The whole process takes no longer than 48 hours...and in most cases 24. Immediately after the Verizon salesman enters your number to be ported, you'll go into what's called Dual Service where you'll be able to make calls with your Verizon phone and receive them with your old AT&T phone. Again, this last no longer than 48 hours and in most cases 24. I've ported numerous customer's numbers from AT&T with no major problems, they are better than most when it comes to this. U.S. Cellular and Sprint are horrible at it.

tell verizon you want to keep your old number, most cell phone companies have contracts with each other to share numbers. They should probably let you do it. Yo'ull have to go into the store

Just request it . You may have to email customer service if there isn't a one on one contact online to answer your questions or you can call and set up from your new phone. I would think that you would be able to do it that way. Other wise go into a Verizon store.

I had the SAME exact problem b4; all you have to do is tell them your switching from your old company to verzion wireless and you wish to keep your same number instead of a new one. They would change it for you but it will just cost you a little bit. Make sure you call the company OR store ahead of time to see how much they charge so you will be fully prepared!!! iight Bye!!!!!!! :)

Say this is your number, you bought, you paid for it and you're going to keep. The law changed the way the cell phone companies did business. I believe they can't charge you for transferring your number either.

JUst tell them you want to keep your number when you switch. The new company will take care of it.

Just tell them you want to keep it. I have friends that have done it before!
