1998 Acura RL Trunk wont close. HELP?
I have a 1998 Acura RL and I live in MN It was pretty cold today and this is my first winter with this car. TOday after school, i went out to it. Popped the trunk to put my back pack in and then tried to close it. I heard that it had not latched and bounced upward. I thought that i was just my backpack covering the latch but it wasnt. So then i thought that maybe the latch had frozen so i went to the gas station and found some lock and latch deicer and put that to work in my garage. Now i just tested it after 2 hours and still doesnt close. I have parked it and disconnected my battery cuz the light wont turn off since the trunk is open. Luckily i am leaving for cancun tomorrow morn and my car wont be used for a week. PLEASE HELP
oh im sorry babe. not all of us can just up and replace a latch. I cant afford to just replace this kind of stuff when it goes wrong. I was thinking more along the lines of a quick home remedy
i already sprayed wd40 on it and actually fixed a squeak. But the rubber channel i didn't think to check so thanks for that. I will do that when i get back on wed. As for now any more answers would be greatly appreciated

Have you checked out the weather channel? May be the rubber channel has hardened with cold temperature. If that be case then it would not close properly.

Make sure the latch is fully open to accept the striker. Try spraying WD-40 on the latch and manually operate it to see if it is stuck. Close the latch with a screwdriver to see if it latches and unlatches properly...could be it needs adjustment...usually a couple of bolts hold it in place that can be loosened and move the latch upwards.

Hey buddy just zip tie it shut or use the good ol' ratchet straps!! No but really just replace the latch!! cuz ya know how ur doors have latches well ur trunk does too and its prolly just hung shut!!
