    An Angel

A star. We tried putting an angel up this year but I didn't think it worked with our tree, so the star has it!

We put up a star, but wish I had an angel to put up there. My mom usually puts an angel on top of her enormous tree. Yes, it is huge! I can remember at Christmas when I was little, my parents usually put up whatever me, my brother, or sister made at school for a tree topper. They switched yearly so each child could receive recognition for an accomplishment. My mother still has all the ornaments and tree toppers we made as kids.

i always put an angel on top of the tree...i think it has to do with the fact that my parents always put a star on the tree.....i just like the idea of an angel better.

It depends on what theme we choose for the tree each year. Some of the themes we have collected for are all wooden toys, Victorian lace and ribbons, Poinsettia and other winter flowers, all crystal ornaments. One is all minatures of dogs and cats. (A friend made me a set of mini fire hydrants ornaments for Christmas one year). Fairy's, dragons, wizards, all angels, all crocheted ornaments (snow flakes, fans, angels). My favorite is the Nativity, the tree we have is artificial and when we do the one with the Nativity we flatten one set of branches and place the manger, Mary, Joseph, and the place for the Baby Jesus to lay. All over the tree is animals and wise men and shepard's, Baby Jesus is placed on the tree Christmas eve. Most years we have the multi colored bulbs that blink independently, but the Nativity has small whites to represent stars, and a large blown crystal star on the top. This year most of the ornaments are going to be brass with the white mini's and the star on top will be brass filigree. One we have been working on but because of the expense is not quite done is going to all be Valley of the Kings Egyptian blown glass perfume bottles and ornaments that we'll hang with narrow ribbons. That will be next year's. I will probably use the blown crystal star on that one. The grandkids wait impatiently to see what the tree will be decorated with. No one is allowed to see the tree until it's finished, then we all have hot chocolate and the youngest gets to flip the switch to turn on the lights.

Well, up until this year, it was one of those Hallmark Illuminations stars but it stopped working and I really wanted something lit on top of the tree so I went out and bought a really pretty angel. She will be on top of our tree for years to come. (I hope)
