    An Imperial is a term for runt. Like teacup is used a lot with yorkies. There is no such thing as an imperial Shih Tzu. People will use this term and try to sell the extra tiny dogs for a high price.

    I imagine it's either due to the size and characteristics of the Shih Tzu, or is some ruler or authority of Shih Tzu.

    they are crossbreeds of shih tzus and chinese imperials (whatever those are). aka mutts. they are not a real breed but something some irresponsible breeder came up with to make money.
