Why do we have to pay for street/highway improvements? Isn't the government supposed to do that?

And who do you think is the government ??? The people...remember them? They are commonly referred to as tax payers.

WE are the government; we're suppose to be....

They get their money from us and we are suppose to pick Representatives who will spend and govern as we believe they should.

This means we have a responsibility to know the candidates and hold them accountable. that takes work on our part which is why we complain and say they are a bunch of liars and thieves. that's a lot easier than being involved, reading about our representatives decisions and making sure our neighbors know too.

Umm, we are the government. And, as users of streets and highways, I would argue that it is one of the few legit reasons for taxes and fees.

Yes the goverment is supposed to do that but the govermentalso needs our money in case the goverment runs out of money.

Well dear lady,only a short answer to that one and that is the definition of democracy>GOVERNMENT FOR THE PEOPLE,FROM THE PEOPLE and OF THE PEOPLE.so if we believe in it and live in a Democratic society,guess we have to pay for the utilities too!

it's simply like this: government needs our taxes (money) to be able to make things in our country to work well for all of us.

some of it is spent on as such, roads for us to be able to travel with ease and safety. traffic lights to keep the traffic flow smoothly and all the good stuff..... so on and so forth....

in Australia it is the responsibility of the local Councils[shires]

and the money is taken from our land taxes
