They are Gray Partridges. Its a species that was originally from Europe, but were released in North America for hunting. They are now widespread across the northern part of the continent, mostly in Canada. They are uncommon and found in fields. They are related to grouse and quail. Nice photo!

Source(s): Long time birder from Texas who has looked for this bird when in the north, but never seen it. Lucky! :-)

First off, nice pic! They are (Hungarian) Grey Partridge! They like wide open hay and cereal fields. I have honestly never seen one before. They are quite a bit rarer over here in eastern Ontario. I'm assuming these birds are coming to a bird feeder or something. Other wildfowl birds that come to feeders include Ruffed Grouse and Wild Turkey.

that's a squab--a infant pigeon or dove, in spite of the reality that that is too early to tell which precisely. the enormous knobby beak is quite distinctive. do not difficulty approximately how lots you cope with him, the concept that a mom chicken will reject her offspring is purely an old better halves' tale. maximum birds have a poor experience of scent and she or he would be in a position to in no way even comprehend the version. i've got had to deal with misplaced fledglings many situations over the years and it consistently resulted in chuffed reunions between the toddlers and their mothers. regrettably, this chicken is quite youthful, and probable nonetheless desires particular "pigeon's milk" which mommy pigeons and doves make for their toddlers (that is not on the subject count of mammalian milk, yet is a few thing created interior the throat and regurgitated for the toddlers--birds can not digest genuine milk). My suggestion is to be certain in case you will locate an animal rescue facility, organic international rehabilitation center or pigeon club on your area. Any of those locations could be waiting and prepared to enable you. i've got secure a hyperlink decrease than which will enable you locate rehabbers on your area, in spite of the reality which you additionally can attempt finding online or on your nearby telephone e book. suited of success to you and the little squab!
