Sims 2 University?

You will definetly need the original Sims 2 or Sims 2 Deluxe before installing University.

I have all the Expansions and Stuff packs and the three expansions I use the most are

University

Bon Voyage (I use this heaps more than the Sims 1 'Vacations')

Open for Business

I also really like Seasons, though I noticed a lot of people don't.

I have all the stuff packs - I don't know why as they aren't that exciting and you can download much nicer stuff from TSR2. Every time a new one comes out I say "I'm not going to get it, I won't waste my money" but I end up getting it anyway. I'm hopeless.

You have to download the original The Sims 2 and then you can buy the expansion packs such as the sims 2 university,nightlife etc...some good expansion packs are the sims 2:

1)university

2)bon voyage

3)open for business

4)nightlife

You do need the original Sims 2 to play any explansion packs. Or else it won't work. They're cheap now, so it won't be that expensive. And you can't "download" it, you need to buy it.
