Can someone help me with connecting my 360 to the internet?

Sorry I've looked at the other dozen topics and couldn't find what I wanted and hours on google and microsoft support site still nothing so let me explain my connection issue.

1.The Wireless adapter is Red meaning it needs to find a wireless network. :-)

2.Under network settings on the 360 you have 3 box areas IP settings etc.,DNS Settings etc. and Wireless Mode etc. the Wireless Mode box (the last one is all grayed out for some reason. It says Not set and I have no idea how to set it. ya I know the SSID etc. but that doesn't help if that whole area is grayed and I can't do anything.
