the turtle and the hare taught us that slow and steady wins the race, the ugly duckling you shouldn't judge a book by its cover, the little mermaid taught us that dreams can come true, the little engine that could taught us to never give up,pinnochio taught us not to lie, cinderella taught us bullies never win, etc, so many lessons to be learned and not enough time to address them all.

I'm more worried with the violence behind these fairy tales we tell our children. Today we are frightened by the violent games and television series, but what about the violence in these stories?

Is not violent that the wolf ate the grand ma and the girl?

Is not violent that the step mother disguises as a witch to give a poison apple to the snow white? And that she sends someone to rip her heart out?

Is not violent that the witch wants to eat the two brothers and keeps them in a cage to grow them fat?

Is not violent that the bad fair has put Sleeping beauty sleeping for ages?

3 little pigs speaks to the power of bad breath!

seriously if you want to find some 'fairy tales' with lessons, some of the more obvious ones could come from Aesop's Fables. The reasoning or the lesson is much more apparent.

  • 3 bears = if you steal you'll get caught,

cinderella = if you stay out past curfew bad stuff happens,

snow white = you can trust your 7 friends better than your step-mother
