How does one go about getting a job for a company/business when they have not advertised any positions?
I feel at a loss for words. I don't just want to walk in the door and say "Hi, my name is _____, I would like a job. Can you give me one?"
What do I do? And how do I go about doing it?

Good question. Create a resume and send it to the HR department at the company you would like. See what they say.
Most companies have a job alert notification. Fill in the criteria for the type of work you want and you will be notified when the position opens.
