I have a 1997 Ford Taurus and the heater isn't working.?
When you turn the nob from cold to hot, it makes a clicking sound once it hits the red area. Fan works...just no heat. Any suggestions?

I doubt anyone is still reading this, but in case there is here is the most likely answer. Everyone is saying heater core. Probably not. The clicking is likely from the control unit that adjusts the heat. For some reasons fords of this year are horrible about SOMEHTING getting out of adjustment. The control servo tries to go to far one way or the other. It then hits the stops but continues to try and move. It starts stripping gears and will eventually get to the point that it will not go either way because the gears are messed up. Had that problem with a 97 taurus I bought. I replaced the heat control unit and it works. However, I cannot turn the control nob all the way don on the cold side or it starts clicking (striping teeth on the gears). SO I just don't turn it all the way to the cold side. To old of a clunker for me to worry about investigating further.

Check the heater core, feel the hoses under the hood. Do they get hot to a certain point in hose? if you hear a click that is the blend door working. You need to make sure a few things that are cheaper than just blowing into a new heater core. Thermostat working? Waterpump had problems?

ok first the heater makes use of warm engine coolant to warmth the automobile frequently theres some issues that could want to reason this one isn't sufficient fluid in radiator 2 you've a leak and are dropping fluid hence low coolant ranges or your thermostat is stuck open and the automobile cant adjust warmth yet no matter if this is the thermostat thank your fortunate stars it did get stuck close examine fluid element in radiator theres also a vacuum operated valve for the heater I overlook what it observed as its frequently by ability of the ac contained in the nook of engine compartment frequently by ability of the hoses that bypass to the hearth wall those are the heater hoses if no longer some thing there and your discover your self headed to the mechanic have them rigidity attempt the completed device before the placed a wrench to it needed they attempt this wide-spread sturdy success

Try feeling down on the passenger side of the floor for wetness or moisture. If you have either one of these symtoms then more than likely you have a bad heater core. It must be replaced. If their's no moisture or wetness on the floor check the heater hoses for some type of blockage. Some vehicles comes equipped with a heater control valve usually located under the dash. you may want to check it also. It may be stuck in the closed position. One of the three of these remedies should solve your problem.

Well if your not losing antifreeze then i would first flush the heater core. Take the hoses off the heater core. Your gunna lose your antifreeze. Then just Put your garden hose up to the inlet side and let it run through there and then do the same for the outlet side. Do this until the water comes out clean.

the thermostat could be stuck in the open position. could not have enough fluid in the radiator.the heater switch could not be getting enough fire to completely open it .look on the outside of the fire wall there will be a black wire and a red wire take your jumper cables put red on the plus side the black to the minus.now cone ct them the same way to the heater wire,s turn the switch to off this should by pass the switch. if not turn on the switch the heater should work. on way or the other good luck

they all said heater core....how about checking the vaccum hose that controls the heater control vavle...look for two hoses in your engine compartment...just on the other side of the glove box..on one of the hoses to the heater core ther should be a vavle.this controls water flow..the vaccum hose usally cracks or comes off from normal use..that clicking sound is the selonid that controls vaccum to the vavle. a lot of times people wont replace the heater core because of the labor to replace it. its about a five hour job.some people bypass the heator core..90 % of the time a visual inspection will tell you wats wrong..grab a rag and a flash light

It could be the heater core.
Mempto - The car is ten years old. You think heaters on Hondas don't break after ten years!? I have a Taurus with 125,000 miles on it and it works great. I would never buy anything but an American car!

You might have a problem with the heater core. Your heater core takes in hot engine coolant and a fan blows the hot air into your cabin.
