Helix ear piercing complication?

I just had my ear cartilage pierced [upper one, i think its called a helix piercing] 2 days ago.

I took the earring out and replaced it with a different one. They're of the same brand, just different designs.

Now, after putting it on, a little amount blood came out of the hole. Not much though, just a little that you could easily wipe off.

After a few hours, it started swelling and it developed some pus. Nothing serious really.

I was told that I could put the earring back on after 3 days so it'd be fully healed.

Wouldn't the piercing start to close by then? Coz I'm really worried that if I tried forcing the earring back in 3 days later, it'd start bleeding again.

Update:

When would the piercing start to close in? As in, assuming that it doesnt have the earring in right now. In like, how many days would it start to close and by when would it be fully closed?

Thanks :)

Don't change your jewlery until your ear has had at least 6-8 weeks to recover. Your ear was bleeding when you changed it because it is literally a hole through your ear at this point. It is trying to heal itself up and running the earring through it to change it probably tore open some tissue, so it bled.

You really need to choose an earring that will fit your ear comfortably and is of a quality material. Put this earring in and LEAVE it in place. Don't change it. Don't take it out to clean it. Just leave it in the ear and clean around it.

Swelling is normal in a new cartilage piercing. Especially one that has just had its jewlery changed. Your ear will also swell any time you get it caught on something, so try to avoid that.

Your ear was probably not producing puss (unless it was creamy, yellow, green or some other strange color) New piercings produce lymph which is a fluid that can be clear to a whitish color. It can dry to form a crust on your jewlery that is white or very pale yellow. This fluid is cleaning out dead cells and debris from your piercing.

When you go to clean your ear, soak it carefully in warm water with a bit of cotton first. This will loosen any crust from your jewlery and keep you from accidentally forcing dirt back into the piercing.

If you are going to use the ear care solution you probably got from the place that pierced it, then follow its directions to the letter. You will need to do it as you are told as often as you are told.

If you would prefer you can use anti-bacterial soap in combination with sea salt soaks. To make a soak mix 1/8-1/4 teaspoon sea salt with 8oz very warm water. You can then dip a cotton ball into the solution and hold it on your piercing. When it cools, toss it in the trash and get a new ball wet. You can continue this for a few minutes.

I would suggest you use the sea salt soaks no matter which method you use. It will help your ear feel better, keep it cleaner, and can help you heal faster.

Keep in mind that cartilage piercings are slow to heal. You willl need to keep on track with your cleaning every day for the next weeks to come. Stopping cleaning can lead to a very sore or even infected ear. Never touch or play with your jewlery, and try to avoid sleeping on it.

Leave a really good earring in place and keep your piercing clean. If you have anything strange come up, then go back to your piercer or your doctor right away.

    Complications Of Ear Piercing

First, you should leave your initial earring in for at least 3-4 weeks. When you had it pierced, they should have given you an antiseptic solution to use on it daily to prevent infection (like the one you're having). I would put the initial earring back in your ear and don't change it for a few weeks. If you don't have any antiseptic solution go get dial hand soap and clean it twice a day. Helix piercings take longer to heal than your lobe so don't rush it.

Don't leave it out for more than 30 min. at first! It will just heal back up. Leave the one you put in there in, and clean it... take some Motrin for the pain
