In the UK, in a busy hallway or mall, do you walk on the right or the left?

In the U.S. people drive on the right and walk on the right in a busy hallway or on a busy sidewalk. Since cars are driven on the left in the U.K., do people also walk on the left?

You usually walk to the right in the direction of travel re the entry point to the venue.

The left. And people don't walk on or go through a two door entrance way on the right so much anymore in the USA, which pisses me off.

No... We just kind of bash into people. Seriously. Nobody walks on either side. Except in Schools. Then it's the left. Plus we don't call them MALLS. We call them SHOPPING CENTERS. Which makes so much more sense.

people on escalators in the subway normally stick to the right or walk on the right side of the road. but the UK is not Germany or Switzerland and most times this simple piece of etiquette is just ignored.

Strangely enough yes!! We were always taught to walk on the left at school in the corridors etc. So I suppose it has kind of stuck! Unless your left handed, which I suppose it feels wrong to them because they want to go to the right!

i hate the one idiot/group that walks in the wrong direction. i also hate those people who walk in a straight line (left to right/right to left) and slowly, blocking the hallway.

<---in the U.S. i know the question doesn't apply to me, just wanted to let people know how annoyed i get when people walk like that.

I would assume the left but you always get the stragglers who love to get in your way! I tend to walk on the left hand side.

  • Yes!!! I've never thought about it before but ye.
