Anyone know why legal drug dealing is okay, weed illegal?

For ONE example, CHANTIX is on the market now... a "stop smoking aid" (for legal cancer causing cigarettes). All over the nation, people are coming forward to state that CHANTIX has given them horrifying hallucinations and has led to suicide. These drugs have simply not been around, let alone studied long enough, to know what long term effects there are! Every day a new prescription drug comes out, listing side effects such as hermorrhaging, stroke, diarrhea, blod clots... They are making millions as well.

In the meantime, a natural grown substance that anyone can grow for about 50 cents, used successfully for a million years with no side effects, something that can ease depression, nausea, pain and much more is illegal. The DEA wastes millions to put out that marijuana is harmful when studies show it is neither harmful nor a "gateway" drug, that certain people are predispositioned to use hard drugs anyway, and millions are in prison for just smoking. This OKAY?

Update:

FDA also spends money to put out that herbal remedies are "not known to work and are possibly harmful" even things like chamomile tea... what the hell?

Update 2:

TANYA, WHO TOLD YOU THAT? MARIJUANA IS THE BUD PART OF A FEMALE PLANT! YOU PULL IT OUT OF THE GROUND AND DRY IT OUT, THEN SMOKE IT! ARE YOU THINKING OF CIGARETTES?

Update 3:

AS LONG AS PEOPLE HAVE BEEN AROUND... LIFE DIDN'T START 200 YEARS AGO!

Teenagers are a long way from ignorant. Actually, we're very mindful. If the mother and father didn't stress it, the colleges surely did (until it used to be an abstinence best coverage). Underage intercourse is just as "unlawful" as toking, smoking and consuming underage, and so forth. Nearly all of us don't seem to be ignorant about that in any respect. Drinkings unlawful except 21 in the us considering that the frontal lobes of the mind are not entirely developed except young maturity, around the age of 25. However having alcohol being unlawful except that age would be a little absurd. Fifteen year olds can get it. For my part, if the teenagers are in a dedicated, loving relationship, I believe there isn't any situation with intercourse at all. I think one night stands are ridiculous, at any age. Adults do it simply as a lot, if now not more, than teens. Why are not they getting a bad rap for it? Oh correct, considering the fact that they are making the sense of right and wrong selection. And you realize what? So are we. The danger of lawful punishment is not an awfully frightening one for most teenagers, who don't have any thought of the consequences they can face.

there is money to be made in legalizing marijuana, but the overall economics are complex.

the bigger reason is that the only people who care are either stoned al the time or on terminal medical pain relief.

neither group has shown itself capable of organizing politically over the last 70 years. The status quo of being stoned and taking a small legal risk while asking this question daily on here (use the search function for a zillion examples) seems fine apparently.

If weed is illegal, then people who want weed for legitimate medical reasons will have to buy the pharma companies' weed pills (Marinol, for instance), making more cash for the companies, more cash in taxes, and cementing the links between government and lobbyist groups.

It also reflects the history of drug laws - when marijuana and opiates were outlawed, they were seen as means for black and Asian people (respectively) to sully the modesty and reputation of white women (for instance, Emily Murphy's book 'The Black Candle'). Maybe the idea that weed is a gateway drug is a holdover from that idea.

Also, weed has not been used for 'millions' of years. Stick with the facts and you'll have more credibility.

Then again, I can't say that much - in my country, marijuana is decriminalized.

It's because people that want marijuana legalized or decriminalized only complain, they don't act. Seriously, all the politicians would adopt it as their platform if they thought their was voter support in it. I doubt this is really about medicinal marijuana, otherwise you would have cited your ailment. This is about recreational marijuana usage, about adding that to alcohol and tobacco, two legal drugs we allow the population to use. As you said, tobacco kills people, and alcohol has its problems, so where is the benefit in adding another substance to this list, even if it is more harmless than the other two?

Its basically just called years and years of Propaganda.

"There is no money to be made in legalizing marijuana....you can't tax it, because if it were legal...everyone would just grow their own."

Just not true! Like everyone has a great place to grow it and the means to grow it. Most people would not grow it at all.

"actually, marijuana is not the plant. It is a plant fiber which is mixed with bleach, rat poison, and 100s of other deadly chemicals. Enough said."

    Tanya...what planet are you from?

    The D.E.A. isn't spending anything.

They are making millions of dollars.

I think they sell it all back to the dealer in Mexico or wherever and its all one big game.

    Pot has never hurt anyone.

Have you ever heard of someone being too stoned so they got in a fight? no.

Have you ever heard of a pot hangover? yes but. no prob burn another one.

    Pot is not harmful.

Source(s): The drug companies put alot of money in pockets of politicians so why would they stop there own perks?

    money.

There is no money to be made in legalizing marijuana....you can't tax it, because if it were legal...everyone would just grow their own. Should it be legal...logically yes...will it ever be...most likely no...at least not federally.
