Why do I have transmission fluid up to my carburator?
I found transmission fluid up to my carb when chaning the vacuum hose to my modulator. I have also noticed bluish black smoke from my exhaust pipe and my engine is running much rougher. I can't get third gear. I have never really encountered these problems before, so any advice would be great. Thank you in advance

I believe you have a leaky modulator. There is a diaphram in it that should keep the fluid from leaking through. The diaphram probably has a hole in it and letting the fluid get sucked down through the carb.
If your engine is running rough while idling in gear, you may have a vaccum leak. I'm guessing that's why you were changing your modulator hose.
The smoke could be tranny fluid. Change your modulator and that problem could be solved. Does your car have a problem downshifting when coming to a stop?
I believe the modulator helps your car to downshift when stopping. When the vaccum pressure from the engine is higher, like when you have your foot off the gas pedal and on the brake, the modulator senses the pressure. When you open the throttle, the pressure decreases.
With your engine running rough, I'm thinking that it's running rich. That will give you black smoke and use lots of gas. The blue may be from the tranny fluid. Check your tranny fluid and see if it is low. It may be burning it and blowing it out the tail pipe.

That's an easy one! Your modulator on the transmission is leaking fluid and the vacuum line attatched to it is now sucking transmission fluid into the intake manifold and the engine is burning it.
The 3rd gear is either from the bad modulator,(more than likely) or your low on fluid now.(which you probably are)
Why did you change the hose? Was it getting soft and mushy? That's from the fluid in it and eating the rubber.

You need a new vacuum modulator for the transmission. The internal diaphram is torn and allowing fluid to be sucked into the intake manifold. From there, it goes into the cylinders and burns. That is the smoke you are seeing.

Can't really add much more then was already answered.
One of the wonderful thing about cars is that any number of problems can crop up, for any number of reasons. What the others said sounds like the most likely culprit, but you never know. If you can't resolve it yourself, then I'd take it to someone that knows what they are doing and have it properly diagnosed. Yes, it is expensive, but in the long run, its a lot cheaper than trying to fix it yourself and find out it wasn't the right thing.
Car repair is often a trial and error sort of thing, after all.
