I just had a baby two months ago and Im suppose to get on birth control tomorrow and I'm not gonna do the shot so I was wondering what kind of pill you would suggest that wont cause me to gain A LOT of weight and doesn't have AS MANY side effects like blood clots and so forth...THANKS!

There are so many options out there. I am a person who does not adapt well to medicine at all. I have to go through tons of perscriptions before I find one that doesnt make me sick. Ive done pretty much everything but the shot. Just dont wanna gain weight. As far as pills go ive been on Ortho Tri Cyclen, Ortho Lo, Seasonale, and Yasmin. Yasmin worked the best but Im horrible at remembering to take it everyday. Ive also tried the patch which liked to fall off and leave a sticky dirt ring around where it was. Too big a mess for me. The ring made me bleed the entire time but pretty convienient and easy. Right now I am going to get an IUD I honestly think that it sounds the best because depending on which brand you get you can choose a 1,5 or 10 year one, its effective immediatly like the pill, and also you can take it out at anytime if you want to get pregnant. It doesnt take forever to get out of your system it is like the pill that way too because it should be immediatly effective. If you have problems with PMDD or cramps then I would try Yasmin if your going for birth control pills. Those are my problems and that was the best so far for me. Im gonna try the IUD so im not going to completly reccomend it to you unless you are interested in it. For more info you can talk to your doctor about it when you go in tomorrow he/she can tell you all about different types. Hope I helped :)

I've done everything except the shot. (HUGE fear of needles) The patch has left permanent squares on my butt, and would fall off whenever I got sweaty...so I wouldn't recommend that. I've also taken Yasmin, OrthoTriCyclin, and Ortho TriCyclin Lo. Out of the three, Ortho TriCyclin Lo was the best. It had the least side effects, and the others all made me sick to my stomach, and vomit for the first couple of months.

    Hope to have helped!

Are you nursing? if you are, it limits your options to either the mini pill (which I got pregnant on) or the IUD (which I had a really bad experience with, see my previous answer). If you're not nursing, you could try Nuvaring. I've been on it for almost 3 years, and it's been great. I'll include a link.

I used the Nuva Ring, it is easy to remember and very convienient. The only hard part was trying to insert it myself, I had to have my hubby do it for me, which he didn't mind at all! And I didn't have any side affects from it.

I did the Mirana. Little to no side effect, you don't have to think of it, and easily removed. Some crampy feeling and some back pain.
