Can anyone give me examples of deviant subcultures that exist in our society?

I just finished Sociology of Deviant Behavior and I did my final paper on the pro-suicide newsgroup alt.sucide.holiday (go to groups.google.com and search for it to read postings - the older ones will be the better ones) and the surrounding subculture.

ashbusstop.org and ash.spaink.net are good places to get you started before you begin researching the group directly.

Other groups could use:

drug users

swingers

prostitutes and other sex workers

victims of stigma like the obese, disabled and chronically ill

religious groups

cults

The way you dress, act and speak are statements you make about yourself to the world in general. Hands down no questions asked, people who do not bath daily, do not wear clean clothes or clothes that are inappropriate for the occasion, people who use inappropriate language or have inappropriate actions are discriminated against. What is appropriate or not appropriate is often dictated by age, upbringing. For the most part, well groomed mannerly individuals, ones with pleasant demeanors are not discriminated against. The equalizer to class discrimination is consideration for others and manners, in my opinion anyway. If well groomed mannerly individuals wish to associate with other well groomed mannerly individuals who can blame them? If teenagers prefer the company of other teenagers and not senior citizens who can blame them? Birds of a feather will always stick together.

hmm... some would consider polgyimists to be a deviant society... Also i'd say religious based cults (for example Heaven's Gate). I would also say pornographers, rapitsts, sexual sadits and child molesters would all count as deviant.
