Where do you meet people?

Question

I'm 27 years old and I live in the middle of nowhere.  I have two bachelors degrees, one in philosophy and one in vocal performance with three minors in sociology, psychology, and English, and successfully work two jobs.  I had been seeing this guy who is in the middle of a divorce but he turned out to be a jerk.  Problem is he's the first guy I had even met in about 8 or 9 months.  The guy I dated before him leached money like crazy off of me, didn't bother to work, wouldn't help with housework, and broke my truck down with his "automotive know-how" so many times I had to junk it.  Before him, it had been years.  I'm okay with being single, I find it somewhat easier but I'm getting to a point in life where all of my friends are settling down, getting married, etc.  I'd like to do the same but have no clue where to even meet someone where there is nowhere to go besides bars, which I am against.  Any ideas so I can maybe feel like I have choices and stop settling for losers?

well the first thing you can do is to find someone like close to you and also go to like stores or go around were you live like parks and stuff like that and you never know you might find

well in this "Middle of no where" what kind of fun can you have there? I mean is there some place you like to go? I find i easier to meet people more compatible with myself if i were in a place i enjoyed being. I don't like bars either unless I'm going there with friends to just hang out. Clubs for me are out of the question since it goes against the way i perceive things.
I tend to meet people through places i visit regularly like lounges, the theater, Music halls, conventions, just generally places i like to have fun at.

Your question is one that everyone has had.  i'm 24 year old male and have realized too that bars are not the place to meet dating material, lol.  My favorite's are house party's and friends of co-workers or friends of friends.  It sounds like you are in need of a vacation.  Go get on a cruise right now!  It sounds like you need to venture out and get out of this middle of nowhere town your living in.  Take care and have fun.

I've had the same trouble. I tryed internet dating, but all I got was crazy woman. Try going to church and meeting people or have friends help meet some nice guy.

Usually it's good for friends to introduce you to someone. They tend to know them pretty well, and you can meet them at a mutual friends house for gatherings. Which makes the atmosphere less awkward.
Otherwise you can meet someone anywhere, but conversation is key. Use the skills you learned in class to assess whether the person is your type.
