Is there a USB device with multiple outlets?

To better explain my question you know when you need one more plug for your t.v. or something to connect cables into etc. Is there such a device for USB ports? (I have 3 ports and have the following devices.) 1.external drive,2,wireless mouse,3.Laptop cooling fan 4.Ipod 5. USB stick so you can see the issue of plugging replugging etc. :-) Thanks. :-)

Yes there is. Its called a USB Hub. There is a input cable for your laptop and a 'hub' for all your devices. You can get one of these at any computer shop and the prices vary according to how many ports are there on the hub. Usually they come in 4 or more...

The characteristics of the devices also have a bearing, though if this is a laptop, you won't be wanting to use a power supply with a hub.

    1. External drive, may require a power supply, or may be powered through the USB (2.5" models) - USB2 speed

    - if USB powered, connect directly

    2. Wireless mouse - low USB power, most likely USB1 speed, connect through hub, USB1or 2

    3. Fan unit - high power and no speed, connect directly unless the hub is used with a power supply.

    4. IPOD - USB2 speed, probably intermediate power, connect using USB2 hub.

    5. USB stick - mosy likely USB2 speed, low USB power, connect via USB2 hub

On that rundown, a lightweight 4 port USB2 hub looks like the answer - alternately, if you want to quickly detach the laptop from a single cable, use a powered hub with enough ports for everything so you have only a single USB connection to the laptop, just be sure to safe remove / eject any active devices before uncoupling.

Not only is everyone correct in directing you to a "USB Hub" but what you may not know is that there are a couple of different types. Not just in how they look, but also in functionality.

What you want to make sure you get is a USB2.0 hub. If your computer is USB2.0 capable, a USB2.0 hub can handle a faster transfer speed than USB1.1 and can handle any USB1.1 device out there. (And yes there are still some USB 1.1 only hubs still around out there). If you don't know if your computer is USB2.0 or not, I would recommend getting the 2.0 HUB anyways. The price difference is not that big and you will always be able to use the hub on your next PC which will DEFINATELY be 2.0!

Also, there are hubs that require power and those that don't. My recommendation is to get one that DOES require power from a plug. The reason is because some USB devices draw their power from the cable (which gets it from the computer). If you plug too many devices in that require too much power, you will get all sorts of very strange things to happen. A powered HUB will be able to supply all the devices you plug in without pulling on the computer.

I also recommend getting a HUB with as many ports as you can find and afford. I have one that sits on my tabletop that has 7 ports. 2 on top (for ease of access for devices like memory sticks) and 5 in the back.

there are various "Splitters" on the industry which will enable greater effective than one 12v plug to artwork on the comparable time. I even have even seen some that permit a favourite a hundred and ten plug and a USB. attempt maximum suitable purchase or Radio Shack. I ought to ask however, how are you going to pay interest on the line with all that stuff plugged in and working. keep in mind driving is an entire time activity. Eyes on the line and don't communicate on your cellular. Your 4 situations lots greater probably to get in an twist of destiny if your on the telephone.

It's called a USB Hub. Check your local Radioshack or BestBuy.
